Petaluma Postcard Pod
We are concerned citizens writing postcards to remind voters across the US to vote, particularly in critical elections for the Senate and the House. We write to elect legislators who support and protect democracy and democratic ideals, primarily Democrats, up and down the ballot. Join us in defending democracy.

Thank all of you, our dear stalwart writers, for writing with us, for being on this wild ride with us. No matter the result of the election, it is important that we have all met each other, that we have taken action together, that we worked to affect the outcome. And we have made differences – and we will continue to make a difference. You rolled up your sleeves, iced up your shoulders and wrists, flexed your fingers – and got it done.
Thank you so much to our generous donors, who made all of this easier for us. You have supported writers and the work of the Pod and all our efforts to defend democracy. We so appreciate your generosity.
And of course, thousands of thanks to our dedicated Wrangler staff, without whom this Pod would not exist: Alice Nadler, Sue Sullivan, Karin Gjording, Kathrine King, Margo Gallagher. And a special thank you to Aiden for being our Wrangler Extraodinaire. And welcome to Lisa Orsaba, who has joined our crew. You understood the assignment from the get-go and have stepped up these past few weeks in magnificent ways.
~ with deep bows of gratitude to you all, for your writing, your perseverance and your dedication to our democracy.
~ Lakin, Alice, Sue, Karin, Kathrine, Margo, Aiden and Lisa.

Our Story
This effort began with one person sitting at Aqus café writing five postcards at a time to Get Out The Vote in Georgia for Jon Ossoff in 2017, small concrete actions that helped to ease some of the high anxiety of the spring of 2017. People stopped to asked what was going on and soon offered to join. Soon I was bringing extra postcards, stamps and pens. We took over a table at Aqus once a week and by early fall, The Petaluma Postcard Pod was formed, Jon Ossoff did not win that election in 2017 but we persevered, and in 2018, we were 100 writers strong and thousands of postcards were mailed from Petaluma to Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina and beyond. We wrote for Jon Ossoff again in 2020 – and he won! Now, in 2024, we are 350 writers strong and this fall, we are writing more than a thousand postcards at a meeting.
Our goal is to defeat the forces of fascism and deliberate chaos that undermine our democracy. We write because postcards work; we write because these concrete actions are an antidote to our anxiety , we write to elect legislators who represent our values of full representation, full access to health care, a woman’s right to determine her own health choices. We support candidates who vow tp lower the impact of gun violence on our children and our society, who support responsible management of climate change, who believe in investing in America and its infrastructure. We are Joyful Warriors who gather and write together because it feels better to know we are not alone, to know that we can effect change. One postcard, like one snowflake, like one drop of water, might not seem like much. But rains can change the course of a river, snowflakes can become avalanches, 20,000 postcards in 2020 helped elect Jon Ossoff, Rev. Raphael Warnock, and eventually, President Joe Biden. Help us do it again in 2024 for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz!
